Kitchen

For those of you who have been following what our new house looks like; here is our Kitchen!

When we were at our old house I really wanted to paint our cabinets white.  I love the look of white cabinets and how bright it makes the kitchen.  I also love black granite.  When we were looking for houses I was hoping that we would find a house that had something similar.  A lot of the houses that we looked at needed work so it would have taken time to refinish or remodel the kitchen to get what I was looking for.

Thankfully when we came across the house we bought it had everything that I wanted.  There are only a few things that I would change, but I am so thankful that it is already done!

The Cabinets are from Ikea and I love them! They are so durable and have the soft close on them which I love as well.  They wipe down great and I never feel like they look dirty.  I'm not a fan of the backsplash, so at some point we would like to change it out but again it is not a must for right now.

We added this cabinet and its from Ikea.  We decide do get a little different textured door on them and it has been great for extra storage.  The kitchen is a little smaller then our last one.

At some point I would like to change out the lighting but for now these work just not my style. I did change the one out over the sink.

I will post the Living room and dining room next!  Hope you are all doing well!

Master Bedroom and Bath

Getting back into the swing of things, now that the holidays are over. I'm looking forward to things settling down a bit.  It has been awhile since I posted last.  I have shown you a few parts of our new house so far.  If you have missed those you can see them Here , Here and Here.

This house was built in 1968 so the rooms are not like they are today.  They are a lot smaller then we have had in the past. Surprisingly we actually like it smaller and the need for less in our rooms.  It keeps things pretty simple.  While we have upped our square footage quite a bit the square footage was used really well and it has given us 6 bedrooms.  Way more then we need as our kids share bedrooms but it has been nice to have options.

Here is our Master Bedroom:

I think our bedroom is 12x10.  Because it is on the smaller size we decided to get an ikea bed with drawers underneath the bed so we did not have to have any other furniture in the room.  There is just once closet and so that is the closet that I use and George has a closet in a room downstairs in his office.

This is one of the rooms that I have painted since we moved in. I love this color!  I discovered that grey is a really hard to pick out.  I actually had to paint in here twice.  The first grey color came out looking like periwinkle.

I love that all the rooms in the house have big windows and let lots of light into the room.

I decided to still use the wall collage from our other house. The door to the right is our bathroom door.  You can see there is not much space between the entry of the bedroom to the bathroom entry.

We decided to forgo the traditional night stand and keep things simple. There is not place for a lot of junk to hide. I love these rolling racks from Ikea.  They are great to be able to roll around and clean under.

Since we don't have a traditional nightstand, I bought these lamps that just clamp onto our bed and keep it super simple. They are great for reading in bed.

This is our tiny little bathroom that is perfect for us.  This is really the bathroom that I use and George uses the one downstairs since all of his clothes are down there.

The shower is not very big either but all that we need.

I decided to not put blinds on the windows because I liked to have the natural light coming in the window for putting makeup on.  I just bought this valance and put it lower on the window so no one could see in.  This bathroom is on the upper level so it is very private.

We love the simpleness of this room and one of my favorite parts is the hardwoods.  I did not think I would like it in a bedroom, but I actually love it!

Thanks for stopping by and checking my post.  I'm not sure what room I will post next but hope to post one soon!

Homeschool Room/Family Room

There is not a day that I don't wake up being truly thankful for this home.  God knew exactly what we needed and wanted in a home and this house it is!

I have been putting it off showing more picture of the inside of the home because of judgment from people but have decided that I am ready to start posting pics of the inside.  Decorating and making our house a home is something that I really enjoy and am passionate about!

God spoke to George and I before we had the twins and Eva about homeschooling.  I knew that one day I would love to have a room that we could homeschool in.  There were a couple times that I tried to talk myself out of homeschooling but I stuck to what I knew God was calling us to do.  We are taking home school on a year by year basis and will see how God directs us over time.

Here are pics of the kids on the first day of school:

No, Eva is not in Kindergarten but might as well be.  She is pretty darn smart.  She plays for the most part while I am teaching the twins but she listens while we are talking and always answers from afar.  Sometimes before the twins even have a chance to answer!

Here is the before picture of the homeschool and family room.  This post is photo heavy just to let you know.....

Here is what the family room side looks like:

The rug is just and outdoor rug from Target and holds up really well with the kids!

We decided to go with more Ikea slip cover couches because they are comfortable and easy to clean!

The investor decided to do a kind of green taupe color on all the walls.  At some point I would like to repaint some of the walls, but like it the way it is right now.

Here are pics of the homeschool side:

Here are the kids school desks.  I bought these a year ago from Cost Plus when they were discontinuing them and was able to get this for a great price.

Every morning we do the Pledge of Allegiance.

I love these ikea lockers that hold all of our school curriculum as well as supplies.  You can lock them up and keeps little fingers out! :)

My Desk

We did this activity at the kids birthday party and they each made their own.

So, this is where we do life during the week.  I have enjoyed homeschooling so much and so glad that I stuck it through.  It really has brought a balance to our schedule and the kids have enjoyed the change!

New Fence

We just finished week three of homeschool and it is going great!  I'm and really enjoying it and the kids are doing well.  We finished early today and so I thought I would take some time to do an update post on the blog.

I'm finally getting around to posting about our back yard fence. Here are the pictures again from before.

As you can see the backyard was all exposed and we could not wait to have the fence put in.  We had a little difficulty with our neighbor not wanting us to put it in and we tried to work with her, but in the end she is still not happy we put it in.

Here is how it looks now:

We still have lots of landscaping issues to contend with and plan on doing it over time.

Our contractor did a great job! Since the fence was put in we also had some of the dead areas of the tree trimmed out as well as taking a layer out of the bottom of the tree to trim it back from the house. We love the old growth of this tree, but it is going to be a little crazy to clean up all those leaves!!

Next up, I plan on showing you our homeschool area! Stay tuned!
