Dining Room Table Tray (DIY)

We recently expanded our table and it is bigger now. I wanted to add some kind of tray in the middle for decoration so it was not so plain. I have been eyeing this tray for a long time at Pier one.
There was just no way that I was going to pay $40 for a tray, and that was the clearance price!

Then I saw this tray at Ikea and thought this would be good and at a much better price.
The only problem with this one was I was not sure when I would be able to make a trip to Ikea and really wanted something now verses later.

I then came across this idea from Pinterest
I have seen people turn a picture frame into a tray before and not sure why I did not think of it earlier. I have a few frames out in my garage that I have been holding on to for times like this. I did not take a picture of the frame before I started painting but it was a golden brown color. Here is a picture while I was painting it. I just used some white paint that I had in the garage.

I did not even have to sand with the darker frame below and I did not prime it naturally looked distressed which is what I was looking for.

I was trying to figure out what I was going to put under the glass?? I was having a really hard time, until I brought the drop cloth in to paint the frame. I bought a burlap drop cloth from Lowes and it was perfect. I cut the section that I needed and then added frog tape on the paint the white lines on it.
Here it is with the lines all painted an tape taken off.

I'm so happy with the way that it turned out! Here is the finished product!

The total project cost me $4.00! My next post will show how I decorated it. Stay Tuned!
